Seokjeon Daeje(Confucian ceremonial rite)

The Daedeokgu Office invites you to the "Seokjeon Daeje"(Confucian ceremonial rite)!

Seokjeon Daeje is a Confucian ceremonial rite performed twice annually to honor Confucius. This fall, Seokjeon Daeje will be held at Hoeduck Hyanggyo, a traditional provincial school, on September 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is free.

Ceremonies honoring Confucius date back to 372 AD, the Korean Three Kingdoms period. It includes an elaborate ceremony with sacrificial offerings of alcoholic beverages and food.

Everybody is welcome to Hoeduck Hyanggyo. A charted bus service will be available. The venue can hold 20 people so advance registration by the end of the 17th(this Thursday) is encouraged.

Participants will have the chance to see the ceremony and enjoy traditional food. Afterwards, there will be a trip to an old traditional house treasured by law. The bus will take you back to school at 3 o'clock.
